Classic Italian Lasagna

A rich, layered lasagna with beef, ricotta, and mozzarella.
Ingredients
Meat Sauce
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
Cheese Layer
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
- 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated
Pasta
- 12 lasagna noodles uncooked
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 tsp dried basil
Instructions
- Cook beef, onion, and garlic in a skillet until browned; drain fat.
- Add crushed tomatoes and basil to skillet, simmer for 15 minutes.
- Mix ricotta, egg, and half the Parmesan in a bowl.
- Layer sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella in a baking dish; repeat layers.
- Top with remaining Parmesan; bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes.
- Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a vegetarian option, substitute beef with sautéed mushrooms and spinach.
